Over the past 6 months, Russ has really helped my character develop. I was always a confident speaker but never fully confident in my abilities. I knew I had what it took to be a winner inside of me but could never seem to realise that potential. Russ brought that potential out of me. It was already there in me and I believe it is in everybody; some people just need to have it brought out of them.
I decided to seek Russ' help last summer when I had lost my job and I just felt so under motivated to get out there and sell myself. I had already been rejected to a few places which made me feel even more under motivated. When you go from having a pretty decent job to the job centre- it dents your self pride. Russ told me that he could get me back on track and help me develop as a person and achieve my aims.
Firstly Russ helped me realise who I am and what I can do by a series of conversations and I literally wrote my qualities, goals, my main strategies (no matter how short/long term they were). Quickly, Russ and I were on the same level of thought. He understood my needs and aims. I started to feel confident because he was telling me things I already knew I had to do but he told me them in a structured way to give me this edge to excel myself. The chats for me were really about getting some sort of structure and how to present myself. Despite the fact I was initially seeking his help for work, it also helped the private side of my life. I was achieving goals with my self confidence and personality.
Soon after I applied to work as an Inward Investment Officer at the local council. These employment positions come up very rarely as a lot of employment is offered internally. I sent off a very good application form which I knew I was already capable of doing. Then I got offered an interview. I had never had an interview before as my last two forms of employment were from people that I knew and didn't to be interviewed for. I spoke to Russ and between us we got example questions written down and a lot of presentation tips – how to present myself, how to act within the interview. There are a lot of small pointers Russ identified that would be useful to induce in the interview. I went into the interview using my nerves as something to keep my confidence to a cool level and to stop me from talking forever! In my opinion, the interview went great. Unfortunately I did not get the position. They actually called me to say how close I got. I came 2nd out of 11 interviewees and over 40 applications.
Bummer. Not at all! Despite the fact I needed employment; the feedback was something I used to great effect. Russ and I went back to the drawing board and continued to build my personality. I already felt some satisfaction despite the setback. Russ knew that it must lead on to something bigger and better. It did. I then applied for a graduate position as a trainee manager for a company in my local area. The interview process was very strenuous and I was about to partake in the first of 4 interview stages.
Firstly, I filled in the online application form. Again, I felt confident enough to do that. That got me a telephone interview with the area recruitment manager. This was a very important step because if I got past this stage, I was to get a face to face interview. Russ and I discussed questions from the last interview that could come up over the phone and thought of new questions they may ask me. I got asked 5 out of the 7 main questions that we'd prepared and I was through to the next stage.
The second stage was an interview with the same recruitment manager. Initially it was meant to last for 50 minutes to an hour. Again, we prepared and I went for the interview. It lasted two hours! But with the preparation and my personality getting me through, the interviewer was very interested to know more about me. I found out a week later that I had been successful.
Next was an interview with a branch manager in Hull. That was meant to be two hours but I was already prepared from before, and I went into the interview fairly confident. Not too confident, but confident enough that I knew I would be OK throughout.
I was successful which led me to the assessment day in Nottingham. Again, I had done all the preparation for any interview I would face and because of my build in confidence. I was successful and got offered the position. Now, I start a whole new challenge and I am able to set myself new goals to advance myself even further. The key was never to set myself unrealistic goals but goals I could achieve and constantly strive for. For 6 months, I was not unemployed. I was employed with helping myself develop as a person. I found myself and embarked on new challenges (I even signed up to a 10 week volunteer course to motivate me into applying for work.) Russ brought out what was already inside me – a winner; and I can say this with confidence because I am living the results. Russ didn't do this for me- I did it myself- he simply put me on the right tracks.
I am not trying to sell this to you- this is my true account and my belief of how Russ has helped me. If you would like to ask any questions at all, I would be more than happy to answer them please email me at: k_kreese@hotmail.com
